MISC MARKET NOTES

Busy, busy, busy! You would think with summer behind that life would wind down a bit during these (supposed to be) cooler days of fall. Between halloween, many fall festivals in preparation for Thanksgiving & Christmas, National Peanut Festival, church gatherings, etc, it almost seems like things speed up!

Staying as active as possible is good, but there’s also this thing called BALANCE that calls us to still our hearts, embrace quietness and reflect. This need to look inside is part of what makes Thanksgiving such a special holiday. Many families have traditions that involve naming and counting blessings. One friend starts listing things on the first day of November every year, sort of like a Thanksgiving advent.

I like that idea! And since a few days have passed since Nov. 1 I’m thinking that writing down something every morning and every evening would make up for both the lost days and lost years of doing this!

Retro picnic
Declutter The Mind, (https://declutterthemind.com/blog/count-your-blessings) has a unique list with 10 different ways to count your blessings.

Katherine’s Kitchen: I have some news that is very joyous except one one sad thing. God has led me to a godly man who has asked to marry me. But the sad thing is he lives in Nevada, so I will be far, far away from the wonderful, special, God-honoring, down-to-earth little market that I have been so honored to be a part of. And the best honey ever.
With love in Christ,
Katherine

Congratulations! We will definitely miss you and are at the same time so very happy for you! We hope life with this very fortunate man will exceed your fondest dreams.

Old99Farm Market:  Week of Nov 4 2024

Hi There,

We hope that you are enjoying the mild autumn weather we’ve been having so far this year.

Eggs are bountiful here this fall, we’ll offer a special for November of three doz for price of two. For XL that works out to $5.66 a dozen for the free-est free range hens in all of Hamilton! Fed local organic grain and our garden surplus.

Composted cow manure, organic and amended with minerals like soft rock phosphate is looking really nice this fall. We can sell by the bag ($7/bu) or cubic yard at $98 (22 bushel equals one cu yd).

The heritage Lineback cows are calving now and we’ll have healthy youngsters to show the kids when they come with parents. We have a Cuisinart 100 electric icecream maker that we lend out to families looking for something different. Takes about 50 minutes to produce 3L of your own home made icecream.

Pawpaws are ripe, we have good crop this year, and we have the last of them in stock.

Like many fruits, pawpaws are rich in nutrients like vitamins and minerals. Pawpaws are especially high in vitamin C, magnesium, manganese, and iron.

Maintaining optimal vitamin C levels in the body is essential for immune function, protection against illness and infection, skin health, and more.

If you get some unripe pawpaws, you can refrigerate them for 2 weeks, then let them ripen for a few days at room temperature.

Most people agree that the best way to enjoy pawpaws is fresh. You can cut the pawpaw in half and scoop out the sweet flesh with a spoon, discarding its large seeds.

As heat destroys the delicate flavor of pawpaws, they’re best used in recipes that require little to no heat, such as ice cream, mousse, and sorbet.

We’re in week 9 of the Fall CSA.

This week we have (asterisk marks CSA items):
Arugula
Baby Kale
Beets: Red
Cabbage: Green

Growers News:

Arrington Bread Company:
Back on the market with her delicous breads.

New Grower: Honey Bee Mine – We are a service-disabled veteran owned small business in Middle Tennessee. We personally operate and produce unfiltered local raw honey and hot honey from our small apiaries located in Rutherford County. We are a certified Pick TN producer and Homegrown by Heroes producer.
Our honeybee colonies managed using organic methods and we emphasize sustainable practices that prioritize the health and well-being of honeybees while minimizing environmental impact. By avoiding synthetic chemicals and antibiotics, we promote natural hive management techniques, such as using organic treatments for pests and diseases, providing ample forage resources, and maintaining hive conditions conducive to bee vitality. This approach not only supports the health of bee colonies but also helps preserve biodiversity and promote pollinator-friendly ecosystems.

RC Farms TN: several delicious baked items along with fall/winter produce. We also have Duck Eggs when available.

Safe and Sound Soap Co.:
It’s never too early to shop for Christmas presents! Safe and Sound Soap Co. car fresheners and room sprays make excellent stocking stuffers, and our gift baskets and starter baskets come wrapped with a festive bow so you don’t even need to worry about getting a gift bag! Another great gift idea is our whipped body scrubs, now in our 10 ounce container and available in all your favorite scents! Don’t forget about our laundry booster, which is available in three refreshing scents, Honeysuckle Breeze, Clean Cotton, and Sea Breeze. Pair with one of our laundry soaps, or the laundry soap of your choosing to add a boost of freshness and deodorizing power to your laundry routine.

NashPhilly: We created smaller portions of our side dishes that we have available to the market. So if you like the Brussel sprouts with bacon and caramelized onions, collard greens , or potato salad, we have them available in about half the size. Same great side dishes, just a smaller portion.

Soup of the week is our favorite and go to soup; French Onion Soup. Not only do you get this delicious onion soup but you will receive a soup kit ( sliced French baguette, provolone and Gruyère cheese), so you can build your own bowl.

We will also have available roasted cauliflower soup, tomato and basil bisque, and butternut squash soup.

Have you tried our chicken Marsala? Our most popular pasta dish, is a mushroom and Marsala wine sauce. Chicken cutlets are dredged in a little flour, seasoned and pan fried until golden brown and beautiful, Sauce served on the side. Comes with spaghetti noodles. Definitely will satisfy your Italian food craving.

Quarter Spring Farm:
We is happy to be back on the market this week after an unexpected week away from you fine folks. We have our usual collection of amazing goat milk soaps. They are moisturizing and make your skin feel amazing, and the smells are great too. We have a seasonal soap available this week. Boozy Santa smells like peppermint and bourbon. We are fully stocked with pasture raised chicken. It’s better for your health and your taste buds than the alternative. We are also restocked on grass fed lamb, and have a limited amount of goat meat available.

Triple LLL Farm: We have several ‘special’ to offer this week, please check us out and Chicken Eggs.

Trinity Rose Micro Dairy: (Please return your jars, thank you!) We are enjoying making our milks and keifer for you but we are loosing money on jars and if we have to continue buying new jars we will have to charge jar deposit. Thank you very much for your consideration.

Flying S Farms:
Baking time for us, Sour Dough Breads are back, uncut loaves, sliced loaves and rolls. By request we have several of our Friendships Breads available and our Sour Cream Biscuis are back on the market. Jams will be available in the future.
